I suspect/hope that there is an o-ring in the pump that broke, but I haven't looked into it.
It appears that the automatic oiler does still work though because at each gas refill, the oiler resevoir is pretty much empty and takes a full refill. At one point the stiff resistance suddenly ceased when the plunger was pushed and while oil can eventially still be seen at the chain from repeated pushes on the plunger, it comes out in much smaller quantities.
Initially, the manual oile pump had a very pronounced resistance when I pushed the plunger and oil could be seen coming out at the chain in prodiguous quantities with just one push. It has both manual and automatic oiling (I guess the AO in Super XL AO means automatic oiler).
I also have a question that relates to the oiler on my saw. Can anyone tell me what replacement saw chain I should be using or would be best for my saw? I am using the original 16" bar that came on the saw. Also, I don't really like the looks of the depth guides on the Oregon chains when I looked at them compared to the chain I am currently using. Essentially, the chart indicates the chain type is one of the following:įurthermore, none of the Oregon chains I have seen at retailers use naming convention similar to any of these. The saw's manual has a sheet that references a number of chain types depending on the guide bar part number for the saw, which my manual does not identify. I do know that my chain needs the 7/32" file. It has a section on sharpening the "Raker III 38ME50 semi-chisel tooth 3/8" pitch" and indicates that a 7/32" file is used at an angle of 35 degrees. My original manual for the saw does not indicate exactly what chain was used. Problem is that I am not sure what I should get as a replacement. I have filed the chain beyond what I probably should have and I need to replace the chain now. There have been numerous times when I have used it to cut all day long without a hitch. I am outrageously pleased at how well this saw has served me for my occasional use over the past 18 years.
I have an old Homlite Super XL AO (Limited Edition - Ol' Blue) that I've had since I purchased new in 1992.
